You can’t believe everything you read on the internet, as Ozzy Osbourne found out when he discovered a growing number of YouTube videos claiming that he’s dead. The 75-year-old Black Sabbath singer responded to the allegation on the latest episode of The Osbournes Podcast: “I’m not dead.”
“The thing on YouTube, it’s got ‘celebrities who have died today,’ and there’s a picture of me,” Ozzy said of the fake clickbait videos, “and I go, ‘I’m not dead. I’m not really dead. Just a little flesh wound.’”
Ozzy addressed the rumors of his death on the latest episode of his video podcast, which also features his wife/manager Sharon, son Jack, and daughter Kelly. What began as a discussion about New Year’s Eve and the Osbourne family’s universal distaste for the pressure of the holiday turned dour when Osbourne observed how fast the years go by, going so far as to say, “I’ll be dead soon.” The maudlin comment drew universal groans from Ozzy’s kin and brought up the subject of the Ozzy death hoax videos.
“It’s a bit f–ing much, isn’t it?” Ozzy added of the people falsely reporting his death for views. “I’m not dead, I’m not going any-f–ing-where. And I’m gonna go and do some more gigs before I’m finished.”
While rumors of his death have been greatly exaggerated, Osbourne has faced some serious health issues in recent years that have mostly kept him off the stage since 2018. Among his more serious issues was a 2019 fall which left him with a spinal chord injury and forced him to postpone a European tour. The following year, Osbourne revealed that he had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.
This has been a year of false alarms and false starts for Ozzy Osbourne. In February, Ozzy announced that due to his health issues he was retiring from touring. Less than a month later, however, Osbourne announced his first full performance in five years with a slot at the all-headliner Power Trip metal festival in Indio, CA. Fast forward a few more months, and Osbourne canceled his appearance, with promoter Goldenvoice tapping Judas Priest as a replacement.
Despite announcing his retirement, Osbourne appears resolved to return to the stage. Back in September, he told Metal Hammer he wanted to record a new album in 2024 and take it on the road. Most recently, in an interview last month with Rolling Stone UK, he clarified that if he can’t go out on tour he’d like to do just one final blowout for his fans.
“If I can’t continue doing shows on a regular basis, I just want to be well enough to do one show where I can say, ‘Hi guys, thanks so much for my life.’ That’s what I’m working towards, and if I drop down dead at the end of it, I’ll die a happy man.”
