American punk rock act Screaming Females are calling it quits after 18 years. The trio of Marissa Paternoster (guitar/vocals), Jarrett Dougherty (drums) and Mike Abbate (bass) posted a collective statement on social media media announcing their immediate break-up.

“After 18 years we have decided that Screaming Females is coming to an end,” they wrote. “A lot changed around us over those 18 years but at our core we operated pretty much the same throughout. We funded and made the records we wanted to make.”

Their post continued: “We did our own art. We printed a lot of our own merch. We managed ourselves. Probably most importantly we loaded up our van with our gear and traveled around the world to play shows wherever you would have us. We tried to build and celebrate community the best we could…

“There are too many people to thank and too many things that should be said,” the band concluded, encouraging diehard fans to order leftover merch via their website.

“Order something for you, your friends, your family, your pets!” they said.

Screaming Females grew out of New Jersey’s basement scene, self-releasing their first two albums, 2006’s Baby Teeth and 2007’s What If Someone Is Watching Their T.V.?

The band signed to indie label Don Giovanni Records in 2009, where they remained for the rest of their career.

They toured Australia for the first and last time in 2019,  off the back of their sixth full-length album, Rose Mountain.
