Todd Snider is opening his archives with the launch of The Snider Files Substack. Announced on Wednesday, the digital subscription service gives fans access to exclusive content, previously unpublished media, and more.

Paid subscribers will receive at least three “files” per week, if not more, delivered via email. These will take the form of feature stories chronicling important “as well as infamous” moments in Todd’s career such as his first days in Memphis and Texas, as well as “On This Day In Stoner Yodel History” pieces looking back on Snider’s songwriting career. Fans will also get new glimpses of Todd through rare and previously unpublished photos by Stacie Huckeba and other photographers, as well as more intimate pictures provided by friends and family.

The Snider Files will also compile and disseminate historical news clippings such as interviews and reviews from throughout his career. Some of these interviews never made it to print for various reasons, such as Todd giving interviews “the razzmatazz” as he put it in the launch video. Fans can also peer over previously unpublished poetry and prose from Snider, “just s–t I write that I don’t punctuate.”

The Snider Files will launch in the new year with individual subscriptions going for $50 annually or $5.50 monthly. In addition to functioning as a place for Snider to disseminate his back pages, the platform will also serve as an online community for Todd’s fans to interact with one another. The series is curated by rock journalist Daryl Sanders, a longtime creative compatriot of Snider’s who wrote the liner notes for many of his records including his new “lost” album Crank It, We’re Doomed.

This announcement comes not long after Snider cleared his tour schedule to recover from surgery for an unspecified malady. While he didn’t get into details, Snider said in a post that “it wasn’t life threatening or drug related,” but that he will not be able to sing until he recovers.

“I’m hoping I’m in recovery from something, so it’s going to be a while before I can tour again,” Snider told Live For Live Music in a recent interview. When asked if he was okay, he said cautiously, “I think so. I think so. Yeah, I think so. … I’m not sure what’s going on right now, it’s not like I knew what was going on before [chuckles], but we’ll see.”
