Dinosaur Jr. kicked off a seven-night residency celebrating the 30th anniversary of Where You Been at Music Hall of Williamsburg on Friday and welcomed surprise special guests Warren Haynes, Kurt Vile, Isaac Brock (Modest Mouse), and Hamilton Leithauser (The Walkmen) during the first two nights of the run.
Both shows began with Dinosaur Jr. performing Where You Been in full in honor of the album’s 30th anniversary before welcoming guests to sit in on a mix of originals and covers. Friday’s show saw the band welcome Hamilton Leithauser for “Feel the Pain” and then Isaac Brock for “Watch the Corners” and “Freak Scene”.
On Saturday, after playing through the ten songs on Where You Been, Dinosaur Jr. called up Kurt Vile to sit in on “Crumble” and a cover of The Stoogers’ “No Fun”, but that wasn’t all the band had in store. Next they welcomed Warren Haynes for three songs, first “Just Like Heaven”, which J Mascis previously played with Gov’t Mule at Haynes’ Christmas Jam in 2022, followed by “Forget the Swan” and a cover of “Cortez the Killer” by Neil Young & Crazy Horse.
