After police in Tulsa, Oklahoma requested help from the public identifying a man who stole a Taylor Swift poster from a movie theater while wearing a Billy Strings hat, Strings responded by writing a clever song about the situation, clarifying that he does not condone the alleged crime, fan or not.
The incident occurred on Friday night when, after attending a screening of the Taylor Swift Eras Tour concert film, the suspect was caught on camera removing a 6’ x 4’ poster from outside the theater, causing thousands of dollars of damage to the poster frame in the process.
“Whether you love T. Swift or not, it’s not cool to destroy other people’s things and abscond with stuff that doesn’t belong to you,” Tulsa police wrote in a social media post pleading for the public’s help in identifying the man.
Strings echoed that sentiment in a post of his own after photos of the alleged thief in his Billy Strings cap started making the rounds on social media, writing, “I don’t condone stealing a Taylor Swift’s stuff even if her bass was bumping in the next room over and disturbing my precious one on one time with the great Nick Cage .. Strings had more to say, though, in the form of a traditional bluegrass ballad. “Now friends I don’t condone taking things that Taylor owns, / In a movie theater down in Tulsa town,” he sings in a video posted to Instagram. “It don’t belong to you, we’re bound to watch you fall, / Well, you should have left that poster on the wall.”
