As the world prepared to flip its calendar to 2024, Dawes threw it back to 2013 with a full performance of its album Stories Don’t End. The concert on Friday, December 29th at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, NY served as a tenth anniversary celebration of the band’s third album.

After performing all of Stories Don’t End, Dawes spread the love around with selections from the rest of its discography. Set two featured selections from Dawes’ debut album, 2009’s North Hills, all the way through 2022’s Misadventures of Doomscroller. As is tradition, the band closed the show with the singalong sendoff “All Your Favorite Bands”.

Stories Don’t End represented a pivotal moment for brothers Taylor and Griffin Goldsmith, who formed Dawes in 2009. One of the songs, “Just Beneath the Surface”, was featured in an episode of American Dad! on FOX, earning the band national attention. This would also mark the band’s last album before the release of All Your Favorite Bands in 2015, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Folk Albums chart and No. 4 on the Top Rock Albums chart, cementing the band’s place as an emerging voice in the indie folk-rock scene of the mid-2010s.

Much has changed for Dawes since the release of Stories Don’t End, perhaps most noticeably its personnel. Back in February, co-founding bassist Wylie Gelber announced his departure from the group after 14 years to pursue a career as a craftsman. Then, just last month, keyboardist Lee Pardini revealed his intentions to leave the band after playing with Dawes for eight years. Pardini marked the third keyboardist in the band’s history and did not give a reason for his departure. Even without those same musicians, though, the music Dawes created ten years ago still resonated onstage at The Capitol Theatre, proving that—through the years and lineup changes—Stories Don’t End.
