Lucinda Williams brought her Don’t Tell Anybody the Secrets I Told You: The Story Of A Life In Songs tour to Atlanta for two back-to-back sold-out shows at Variety Playhouse over the weekend.

After kicking off the two-night stand on her birthday on Friday, Williams and her band returned on Saturday for a second night of stories and songs. Old photos projected behind the band helped illustrate the amusing anecdotes she told between tunes, some of which are featured in her recent memoir, Don’t Tell Anybody the Secrets I Told You: A Memoir, which was published in April of last year.

In addition to regaling the audience with the stories behind some of her songs, Williams emphasized that she is still in the process of working to regain her guitar-playing skills after suffering a stroke in 2020. The 71-year-old alt-folk icon sat for a portion of the performance and required some assistance walking to her stool, but her wit was as sharp as ever, and her deep connection with her fans made for a weekend filled with “Joy” and mutual adoration.
