The Best TV Shows to Stream on Netflix This Week

the best new series coming to netflix this week

There are a ton of new and noteworthy series to stream on Netflix this week, including a new season of Formula 1 racing docu-series Drive to Survive and chilling true crime series Can I Tell You a Secret?, which details the crimes of one of the worst cyberstalkers ever.

Formula 1: Drive to Survive, Season 6

Netflix’s popular documentary series chronicling Formula 1 racing returns for a sixth season this week with a look at the grueling 2023 F1 season. Drive to Survive takes viewers deep inside the high stakes, high stress world of elite drivers by combining racing footage with behind-the-scenes footage of the fame, interpersonal relationships, and personality issues that play into drivers’ success and failure.

Can I Tell You a Secret?

Someone has to be the best at everything, and Matthew Hardy holds the dubious distinction of being the best at cyber-stalking. During his 11-year reign of terror, Hardy victimized hundreds of people, mostly young women (natch). Though many of his victims knew who was tormenting them and gave Hardy’s name to police, it took more than a decade for this uber-creep to meet justice. Can I Tell You a Secret? tells its sordid tale through interviews with victims and the police who hauled Hardy to jail—eventually.

I Think You Should Leave (2019)

Enough time has passed since you binged Tim Robinson’s innovative and hilarious sketch show that it’s time to go back to I Think You Should Leave and re-live every painfully awkward moment. The best of ITYSL’s sketches get better with repeated viewings as the underlying logic of their surrealistic premises become clear. If you haven’t seen I Think You Should Leave yet, I’m jealous.

FUBAR (2023)

Arnold Schwarzenegger is the greatest action star in movie history, so any time he does anything, it’s worth watching. In FUBAR, Arnold plays a retired CIA operative who’s dragged back into the field for a last mission to save his daughter, also a CIA agent. Together, the pair face life-or-death challenges and try to repair their relationship. It doesn’t make a ton of sense, but FUBAR is breezy, self-effacing, and shot through with 1980s-style action movie adrenaline.

Last week’s picks

The Blacklist, Season 10

After 10 seasons, The Blacklist star James Spader has finally hung up his hat. All 10 seasons are available for streaming now on Netflix, so you can follow the twists and turns of this compelling thriller from start to finish. The show concerns ex-government agent Raymond “Red” Reddington, who turned to crime, then mysteriously agreed to help the FBI track down and neutralize all of his old associates.

Warrior, Seasons 1-3

Based on an idea from Bruce Lee and directed by Justin Lin, Warrior is as badass as TV gets. Set in San Francisco in the late 1800s, Warrior tells the story of Ah Sahm, a martial artist and immigrant who meets bigotry with a clenched fist, and battles both rival tongs and racist power structures to claim a place in his new home. Warrior was previously on Max, but its three-season run is available on Netflix now.

Love is Blind, Season 6

Netflix’s original dating show returns for a sixth season of sight-unseen romance. The hook: singles meet each other, date, fall in love, and get engaged without seeing each other. Love is Blind‘s big reveal comes on a honeymoon-like vacation. Then the couple decide if they really want to get married. Most mental health professionals agree that a cheap gimmick isn’t usually the basis for a solid marriage, but it’s a compelling subject for a reality dating show.

Little Nicholas: Life of a Scoundrel

This Spanish Netflix original docu-series examines the life and crimes of serial identity thief and conman Francisco Nicolás Gómez Iglesias. Nicolás started scamming at age 14, and by the time he was in his early 20s, he’d wormed his way into the upper echelon of Spanish society, even hanging around with royalty. If you like a good rise-and-fall-of-a-swindler story, check this one out.
