Before he became widely known as the ripping guitarist in Eggy, Jake Brownstein once “auditioned” to play with moe.
When moe. announced a contest to find three lucky fans to sit in with the band at its 2012 New Year’s run, Brownstein submitted a short video of himself jamming with his eventual Eggy bandmate Danni Battat and drummer Chris Kelly.
“My name’s Jake and I wanna be in moe.” Brownstein says at the start of the four-minute clip, referring to the name of the contest (“I Wanna Be In moe.”).
The video, which recently made the rounds once again via a thread on reddit, was filmed, mixed, edited, and posted to YouTube by Eggy’s namesake, Edward “Eggy” Torrence, who sadly passed away in 2017 at the age of 24. Brownstein’s submission was not among the three selected, but exactly ten years later, he got to share a bill with moe. when Eggy served as the opening act for the group’s 2022 New Year’s show at the The Fillmore Philadelphia.
