Asheville singer-songwriter-guitarist Andrew Scotchie crossed over the Blue Ridge Mountains, the Rocky Mountains, and a few other mountain ranges over the weekend for his return to Steamboat Springs, CO. The bandleader staged a two-night run at the Old Town Pub on Friday and Saturday, featuring nightly tribute sets to the ’90s and Fleetwood Mac respectively in addition to full sets from his growing cache of originals.

Andrew Scotchie and his bandmates Kayla McKinney (bass/vocals) and Clark Eden (drums) had plenty to celebrate this latest trip to Steamboat Springs. For starters, Scotchie dropped a new album Love is Enough last summer, with Andrew and the band giving the disc plenty of love across each night’s original set. Beyond that, it was also the week of Winter Carnival in Steamboat, five days celebrating the city’s Western heritage and a variety of winter sports. The public festivities like adults riding horse-drawn shovels and skiers jumping through flaming hoops make it one of Steamboat’s busiest weekends of the year, and this past weekend marked Scotchie and company’s third appearance during Winter Carnival. There was also the matter of bassist McKinney’s 24th birthday which she celebrated onstage at the Old Town Pub, with cake, candles, and all the trimmings.

The band welcomed over 400 fans across the back-to-back, two-and-half-hour nightly performances. In addition to cuts from Love is Enough and Scotchie’s previous releases under the banner Andrew Scotchie & The River Rats, the band delivered rowdy tribute sets that frequently erupted into full-blown singalongs.

On Friday night, Scotchie and company paid tribute to a wide range of ’90s bands with covers of Blind Melon‘s “No Rain”, Ween‘s “Vodoo Lady”, Nirvana‘s “Breed”, Green Day‘s “Basket Case”, and many more. The following night, the band turned the dial back to the ’60s and ’70s for a tribute to Fleetwood Mac. Scotchie and his bandmates spanned from Mac’s early Peter Green psychedelic blues era with “Oh Well (Pt. 1)” to the chart-topping Stevie NicksLindsey Buckingham ’70s with anthems like “Dreams”, “Gold Dust Woman”, “The Chain”, Go Your Own Way”, and more.
