Butcher Brown stopped by NPR Music‘s Tiny Desk for a soulful session of Solar Music.
The Richmond, VA-bred collective comprised of DJ Harrison (keys), Tennishu (vocals, saxophone), Morgan Burrs (guitar), Andy Randazzo (bass), and Corey Fonville (drums) played a set of songs drawn mostly from their most recent album, Solar Music, plus one song each from 2014’s All Purpose Music and 2020’s #KingButch.
Solar Music gets its name from the genre-blending band’s wide range of musical influences, which include “everything under the sun.” More specifically, the five talented instrumentalists have collaboratively developed a sound all their own, drawing from psychedelic funk, jazz, and hip-hop to make something fresh and modern, and earning “daps from the jazz cats, the rap scene, the indie scene, and everyone else,” according to Fonville.
