Daniel Donato and his Cosmic Country cohorts made their triumphant return to Morristown, NJ on Sunday where they sold out Homestead Bar & Kitchen.
Per the show’s promoter, Vincent Ventriglia of Flying V Productions, the performance marked the venue’s first-ever official sell-out. “It’s exciting to see things moving down the line here,” Ventrigila told Live For Live Music. “I’m proud of them. First show I did with [Donato] was 34 people [at the nearby Stanhope House] and it’s great to see what it grown into.”
The gang of psychedelic-twang desperados last visited the military capital of the American Revolution in March 2023, and have had an eventful 11 months since. Both the band and Donato individually have shared the stage with Grateful Dead drummer Bill Kreutzmann, first during New Orleans Jazz Fest at a late-night show featuring an otherworldly 45-minute “Dark Star”. Then, over the summer, Donato was called up to join the family of Billy & The Kids, playing with Bill the Drummer, Tom Hamilton, Aron Magner, Reed Mathis, and other special guests at the coastal Dead on the Water run in Baltimore and New York City.
In the past year, Donato also dropped his second studio album and first containing all-original material, Reflector. Many sold-out shows at increasingly larger venues have followed, including Daniel’s annual Cosmic Country Christmas Jam in Nashville which featured sit-ins from members of Widespread Panic, Greensky Bluegrass, and more. The band also brought in new drummer Will Clark to keep the beat steady as they continue to gather speed.
Looking ahead to the future, Donato has plenty to look forward to on the calendar including a trip on Jam Cruise and a run of shows opening for Greensky Bluegrass. Come spring, the band will host its first-ever event at The Caverns in Pelham, TN with Camp Cosmic on April 20th. The group’s schedule is also filling up with 2024 festival appearances at Rooster Walk, Dark Star Jubilee, Blue Ox, Flood City, and more.
