Lake Street Dive will put its dynamic and effortless chemistry on full display with the band’s new album, Good Together. Out June 21st, the Boston indie soul-pop outfit’s first album in three years will mark the band’s first for Fantasy Records.

Along with Thursday’s album announcement, Lake Street Dive shared the title track to Good Together. On the band’s first new, original release since 2021’s Obviously, LSD continues honing its pop sensibilities in a way that is infectiously fun without any of the pangs of guilt that accompany enjoying pop music. Keyboardist/vocalist Akie Bermiss‘ minimalist “1999”-esque synths put a pep in vocalist Rachel Price‘s step as they duet back and forth on how good it is to be “Good Together”.

“There’s a lot to be angry about in the world right now, a lot of pain and rage and divisiveness, but it isn’t sustainable to constantly live in that anger—you need something else to keep you going,” drummer Mike Calabrese said. “Joy is a great way to sustain yourself, and we wanted to encourage everyone to stay aware of that. In a way this album is our way of saying, ‘Take your joy very seriously.’”

For Good Together, Lake Street Dive once again collaborated with Grammy-winning producer Mike Elizondo (Fiona Apple, Sheryl Crow, Gary Clark Jr.) who helmed Obviously. Though 20 years into a celebrated career, LSD wasn’t afraid to switch up the formula and, for the first time, all of the band members collaborated from the very beginning of the songwriting process to create a unique approach to the sessions. Price, Bermiss, Calabrese, bassist Bridget Kearney, and guitarist James Cornelison all decamped to Calabrese’s Vermont home where they each contributed to developing the song sketches, expanding each other’s artistic palette from the very beginning.

“At first it was terrifying to write together in the same room,” Price said. “But as soon as we got started it felt so fun. We very quickly realized, ‘Oh, we need to do this again and again.’”

Good Together also marks the band’s first album without guitarist/trumpeter Mike “McDuck” Olson, who was replaced on six-string by James Cornelison shortly after the release of Obviously. To celebrate the album’s release, Lake Street Dive will head out on the Good Together Tour, the band’s largest headlining outing to date. The trek includes the band’s historic debut at Madison Square Garden on September 14th.
