Prog rock titans Primus and Coheed & Cambria will join forces in summer 2024 for an extensive 25-date co-headlining U.S. tour. The pair will bring along an impressive slate of openers for the journey including Guerilla Toss, Too Many Zooz, and Fishbone.
The joint dates will kick off on July 12th in Redding, CA, igniting a run of western dates with art-punk outfit Guerilla Toss in Oregon, Idaho, Washington, Montana, and South Dakota. In the Midwest, Primus and Coheed & Cambria will link up with brass house trio Too Many Zooz for stops in Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska, Indiana, Wisconsin, and Missouri, along with three dates in Ohio through late July and early August. The final leg of the joint tour will see the headliners take on the East Coast with long-running funk cult favorite Fishbone for stops in Pennsylvania, New York, Maine, Washington, D.C., and finally wrap in Charlotte, NC on August 17th.
“The music of Primus has had a creative influence on me and it is a huge honor to get to share the stage with them,” Coheed & Cambria frontman Claudio Sanchez said.
In addition to the tour dates with Coheed & Cambria, Primus has added ten new headlining concerts which will bookend the joint tour. New Primus shows include Wilkes-Barre, PA (5/6), Asheville, NC (5/8, with openers All Them Witches), Charleston, SC (5/9), Paso Robles, CA (7/7, with Guerilla Toss), and Highland (7/9) on the front end of the tour. On the back end, Primus will wrap its summer with shows in Birmingham, AL (8/18 with Fishbone) and a final run with opener Fantastic Negrito in Memphis, TN (8/20), Austin, TX (8/21), Dillon, CO (8/23), and Colorado Springs, CO (8/24).
Tickets for the Primus and Coheed & Cambria joint tour and Primus’ new headlining dates go on sale to the public on Friday, February 23rd at 10 a.m. local venue time. The tour comes during a period of prolific activity for Primus bandleader Les Claypool. Back in 2022, Les, Larry “Ler” LaLonde, and Tim “Herb” Alexander issued the first new Primus music in five years with the Conspiranoid EP. That same year, Primus executed a lengthy tour celebrating Rush‘s A Farewell To Kings and even played “Closer To The Heart” with Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson at (of all places) the South Park 25th Anniversary Concert at Red Rocks Amphitheatre. Then in 2023, Les reactivated Les Claypool’s Fearless Flying Frog Brigade for its first tour in nearly 20 years. Earlier this month, the influential bassist also issued a box set, Adverse Yaw, compiling recordings from his myriad solo projects including Fearless Flying Frog Brigade, Colonel Claypool’s Bucket of Bernie Brains, and The Fancy Band.
