The Avett Brothers are back with news of the band’s first album in five years, fittingly titled The Avett Brothers. Out May 7th via Ramseur Records/American Recordings/Thirty Tigers, the new nine-song collection hears brothers Seth and Scott Avett join forces with famed producer Rick Rubin, who has helmed the band’s last five albums.

The Avett Brothers previewed The Avett Brothers with the lead single “Love of a Girl”, which highlights the band’s more radio-friendly pop elements. A bare-bones rock n’ roll backbeat dresses up Seth and Scott’s motormouth lyrics that celebrate the mundane beauty of life and everything done for the “Love Of A Girl”.

Prior to The Avett Brothers, the band stripped things back for The Third Gleam EP in 2020. The third installment of the band’s series which began with The Gleam in 2006 and continued with The Second Gleam in 2008 heard The Avett Brothers return to their acoustic trio days of just Seth, Scott, and bassist Bob Crawford. On The Avett Brothers, however, the band again flings the doors open wide to myriad styles and sets their expanded lineup loose on everything from rock to roots to strings to synths.

The Avett Brothers recorded their album at Rubin’s Shangri-La Studios in Malibu, CA as well as Mar Vista, Nashville, and the band’s hometown of Concord, NC. A press release describes the album as “questions and considerations in the interest of the divine unknowable,” which “seek sacred in the commonplace,” something that can be heard on “Love of a Girl”.
