Some of country music’s biggest stars will pay their respects to Tom Petty on a new tribute album, Petty Country.
Due out May 31st, the 20-track album features contributions from Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton, Chris Stapleton, Marty Stuart, Margo Price, and many more. Two of Petty’s former Heartbreakers bandmates, Mike Campbell and Benmont Tench, also appear on the album.
The first preview of Petty Country arrived via Dierks Bentley, who honors Petty on a banjo- and fiddle-infused cover of “American Girl”.

“Petty’s southern roots shined through across his songwriting and storytelling,” Bentley said in a press release. “He might not have ever been considered as country but you can’t go into a bar in Nashville without hearing this song. It is one of the greatest songs in a life’s work of great American songs.”
