According to posters on the oculusnsfw subreddit, early adopters of Apple’s just-released Apple Vision Pro virtual reality goggles have found that it cannot be used to enjoy immersive 3D porn. The Vision Pro can stream, download, and play “normal” porn videos on gigantic virtual reality screens, but immersive, 3D videos produced specifically for virtual or augmented reality will not currently work on your Apple Vision Pro—at least as it’s configured out of the box.
I talked to Alex Novak, the CEO of virtual reality porn platform Sex Like Real, to find out what’s going on. According to Novak, the reason users can’t watch “real” VR porn on their $3,500 Apple Vision Pro comes down to one word: “Apple.”
“We expected Sex Like Real to be functional on Apple Vision Pro’s Safari browser right from the start, like it works in Meta’s browser,” Novak said, “but they completely turned off WebXR (the programming interface for accessing augmented reality and virtual reality devices) in their browser.”
Novak is hopeful that the company that makes DEOvr, the platform-of-choice for Sex Like Real’s videos, is working on a solution.
Not having WebXR enabled means no VR porn, but it also means you won’t have access to a slew of non-adult VR and AR content like web-based games, tours, productivity apps, etc. Luckily, there is a way to enable WebXR on your Vision Pro, but as of this posting, it will still leave you porn-less, at least on Sex Like Real’s website.
How to enable WebXR on an Apple Vision Pro
According to Apple Insider, Safari does support WebXR, but the default is “off,” so you have to mess around with the settings a bit to get it working.
Open Settings.
Select Apps.
Select Safari.
Scroll to the bottom of the window and select Advanced.
Scroll to the bottom of the window and select Feature Flags.
Under Experimental XR Features, enable WebXR Device API and WebXR Hand Input Module.
Under WebKit Feature Flags, enable WebXR Augmented Reality Module and WebXR GamePads Module.
Exit Settings.
Open Safari, or if it’s already open, refresh a WebXR-enabled page to check it is working.
I ran this solution by Novak, who tried it out and reports, “It opens the hub, but there’s no way to launch a video. Going to make it work in coming days.”
