Sydney-based artist services agency Good Intent have unveiled the recipient of the third annual instalment of their ‘Greater Good’ independent artist initiative, with Cavanbah/Byron Bay-based surf rock act Lazy Ghost taking out this year’s $25K prize pool.
“It was another super-competitive year, the team and I trawled through hundreds of applications, and we’re thrilled to award Lazy Ghost as this years recipient,” Chief Operating Officer Rick Bridgman said in a press statement. “The guys had a vision for every aspect of the initiative and we can’t wait to see how 2024 and beyond unfolds for them! We’ve seen acts utilise ‘Greater Good’ in the past two years, and there’s nothing more we love than seeing emerging artists thrive.”

Designed to provide a launchpad for exceptional emerging artists to kickstart their careers, Good Intent’s comprehensive prize will see Lazy Ghost pocket $4K in cold hard cash, as well as a range of services from the the best music professionals in the game, including pro-bono artist management consultation, publicity, radio plugging, DSP servicing and digital marketing help from Good Intent itself, together with an in-house photoshoot and visual asset creation via their sister company, Good Loco. The foursome have also scored a vinyl package from Zenith Records, legal consultation from Media Arts Lawyers and Accounting Consultation from White Sky.
“We’ve never won anything in our career as a band,” Lazy Ghost said in a press statement. “The first, last and only time we tried to win, was a battle of the bands type competition, we got beaten by a reggae band that covered ‘Wasn’t Me – Shaggy’ in Canada – it was so good, I even voted for them.”
“We’re very grateful to be chosen for the Greater Good initiative, it’s nice to have some big players in the industry backing an independent band and their above average songs and ridiculous plans,” they continued. “I think the next 6-12 months are going to be huge and we’re stoked to see where this all leads us.”
The band will release their new single, dubbed ‘Eat You Alive’, tomorrow.
Good Intent first launched in late 2018 and offers a range of artist services, with their management roster boasting the names of Bootleg Rascal, FANGZ, Close Counters and more.
They Marrickville-based agency also recently celebrated its 5th birthday, taking place at Brisbane’s BIGSOUND conference last year, where GM Rob Carroll broke the Guinness World Record for ‘longest dancing of the Macarena’ without anyone even asking.
