After jamming with Duane Betts in Washington D.C. earlier in the week, Tedeschi Trucks Band traveled to Maryland for a show at Baltimore’s Hippodrome Theatre on Saturday evening.
After opening with “Last Night in the Rain”, TTB began to dig in to its back catalog with the first “Signs, High Times” in nearly a year. The bust-outs continued throughout the night, with the band’s first cover of Roosevelt Sykes‘ “44 Blues” since March 2022 arriving late in the first set following a string of covers including Eddie Kirkland‘s “I Must Have Done Somebody Wrong” and The Wood Brothers‘ “Smoke Ring Halo”. An odyssey through the Trucks-led I Am the Moon instrumental “Pasaquan” brought the first set to a powerful conclusion.
The second set also featured a few fun covers including Wet Willie‘s “Keep On Smilin’”, which was followed by a seamless pairing of “Fall In” and The Allman Brothers Band‘s “Come and Go Blues”. TTB finished the set with an unexpected transition from “I Want More” into Santana‘s “Soul Sacrifice”, played for the first time since May 2023, instead of its recent go-to sparring partner, “Beck’s Bolero”.
For the encore, the band broke out a pair of Sly & the Family Stone songs last performed at Madison Square Garden during the monumental Garden Parties run, “Sing a Simple Song” > “I Want to Take You Higher”.
