Today, the Disco Biscuits have released their ninth full-length studio album, a “space opera” entitled “Revolution in Motion.” Comprised of 14 tracks and produced by Derek VanScoten, a.k.a. Cloudchord, the album was rolled out in 4 parts each accompanied by comic book-style 3D animated films by creators Blunt Action. The album is available for purchase on vinyl and CD on the band’s merch site and streaming on all digital platforms. Watch all four parts of the animated film here.

Per a description furnished by the band, “The album tells the story of a group of aliens coming to New York City to freeze and abduct humans in order to study them for the good of their home planet. What the aliens didn’t plan on, however, is The Disco Biscuits coming to save the day. The story then follow the band of misfit aliens back to their home planet with the Biscuits band members to show their Queen the power of music and how it could possibly settle unrest amongst their people.”

All 14 tracks from the album have been debuted and workshopped live by the band over the past two years, with many becoming live staples and improv vehicles. The opera was conceptualized by Jon Barber (guitar, lead vocals) alongside collaborator and friend Joey Friedman back in August 2021. They later began writing the songs in early 2022 with Aron Magner (Keyboards/Vocals). Revolution in Motion, which has been characterized by fans as “music aliens would love,” marks the third rock opera to enter The Disco Biscuits canon following Barber’s Hot Air Balloon (1998) and Marc Brownstein’s Chemical Warfare Brigade (2000).

Barber initially conceptualized Revolution in Motion with friend and collaborator Joey Friedman in August 2021. The pair began writing songs for the album in early 2022 with Magner, and the band debuted all 14 of them live as they were completed. “The Biscuits’ fans have been loving these songs for over a year,” Friedman said, “and while some have been able to figure out the underlying story, we think they will gain a whole new appreciation for these songs once they learn all the layers to the narrative and the depth of the characters.”

The band will celebrate the album’s release on Friday night with a sold-out performance at New York, NY’s Webster Hall. As keyboardist Aron Magner explained, “With a large part of the space opera taking place in New York City, we thought it was only appropriate to play a show there on the day of its release. After our late-night rager at the Palladium over our New Year’s run in 2023, we can’t wait to get back to NYC and tell this story from start to finish.”
