TAUK will return to New Orleans, LA on Saturday, April 27th for a very special celebration of two iconic acts: pioneering progressive soul legend Stevie Wonder and Oakland funk institution Tower of Power. The latest new tribute concept from the New York-based prog-jam band is set to take place at Toulouse Theatre once the festivities wrap up at the Fair Grounds on the first Saturday of Jazz Fest 2024 [get tickets].
TAUK—comprised of guitarist Matt Jalbert, keyboardist Alric “A.C.” Carter, bassist Charlie Dolan, and drummer Isaac Teel—may be an instrumental band at its core, but its collaborations with various notable vocalists have expanded the band’s creative scope in recent years. Among those crucial connections is dynamic vocalist Kanika Moore (Doom Flamingo), one of the guests on the Tower of Wonder show, who recently linked with TAUK to record a full-length album and mount a run of tour dates as TAUK Moore. Tower of Wonder will also feature vocalist Lyle Divinsky as well as Cool Cool Cool’s Chris Brouwers and Greg Sanderson, also known as The Horn Section, who recently sat in with TAUK Moore on a searing “Spanish Moon” during Jam Cruise 20.

Special performances in New Orleans during Jazz Fest are rapidly becoming an annual highlight of TAUK’s touring schedule. Last year, TAUK teamed with Kanika Moore, Vulfpeck’s Antwaun Stanley, The Horn Section, D’Vibes, and DJ Williams at Toulouse Theatre for a sold-out tribute to Parliament-Funkadelic and Sly & The Family Stone.
As Carter told Live For Live Music about the performance, “Jazz Fest is always a special time for us and after last year’s Parliament vs. Sly and the Family Stone set, we wanted to elevate the energy. We wanted to include horns and vocals to make this a party and thought Stevie Wonder’s catalog would meld perfectly. But as lovers of funk, we also wanted to challenge ourselves. Tower of Power’s tight, explosive grooves and rhythms were the next logical step. Can’t wait to share this rich music with y’all. There’s no doubt this will be epic!”
