Phish guitarist Trey Anastasio popped in to New York’s iconic jazz club the Village Vanguard last night to sit in with Dezron Douglas Quartet.
The jazz ensemble led by Trey Anastasio Band bassist Dezron Douglas is coming to the end of its five-night debut at the legendary nightclub, which began on Tuesday the 19th and will conclude with early and late shows on Saturday and Sunday night (the 23rd and 24th). In addition to Douglas, the band features Emilio Modeste on saxes, George Burton on keys, and Joe Dyson Jr. on drums. They released their swinging debut album, ATALAYA, in 2022, about a year and a half after Douglas joined Trey Anastasio Band following the sudden passing of founding TAB bassist Tony Markellis.
The quartet was augmented on Friday as Big Red stopped in to flex his jazz chops and support his bandmate. Douglas indicated big plans for the quartet in the coming year, writing, “When I say this rocket [is taking] off, don’t doubt it one bit.”
