U2 has officially completed its historic, sold-out 40-show residency at Sphere in Las Vegas.
Saturday, March 2nd marked the final show of U2:UV Achtung Baby Live At Sphere, which helped launch the groundbreaking new venue as the first music concerts to utilize its state-of-the-art technology. Over 700,000 fans from more than 100 countries, including many musicians and celebrities, attended shows from September 2023 through March 2024 and were the first to experience Sphere’s cutting-edge combination of stunning visuals and live sound.
U2 drummer Larry Mullen Jr.—who sat out the residency to recover from neck surgery—was present in the crowd during the closing weekend, later writing on the band’s social media, “What an incredible night at Sphere. So grateful to Bono, Edge and Adam and of course Bram for an amazing job, very emotional night for me personally.”
Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton, and Bram Van Den Berg, who sat in on drums for Larry Mullen Jr., received the “Key to the Las Vegas Strip” from Clark County Commissioner, Tick Segerblom during a pre-show presentation on the final night of the residency, proclaiming it “U2 Day”.
U2’s Sphere residency saw the band once again work with longtime creative collaborator and show director Willie Williams, as well as visual artists Es Devlin, John Gerrard, and Marco Brambilla. It also saw the release of a new track produced by Jacknife Lee and Steve Lillywhite, “Atomic City”, which the band performed during the 66th Annual Grammy Awards on February 4th in the first broadcast from Sphere.
