After performing at Love Rocks and test-driving tunes from his upcoming album, Mood Swings, at The Capitol Theatre, Marcus King celebrated his 28th birthday on Monday with a performance of his new song “Delilah” on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
King swapped his six-string for a baby grand, playing piano for the first time on TV before picking up his ax for a climactic guitar solo. He also brought along a trio of backup singers to harmonize on the unreleased song, which will only be available via The Tonight Show until the album release.
“It’s a coming-of-age tale about learning how to love and how to allow yourself to stay still long enough to be loved,” King said of the tune, adding that during the vocal-driven performance, “There was no hiding behind the guitar at all.”
