After recently sharing a reaction video in response to Marcus King‘s cover of her song “Down Home Dispensary”, Molly Tuttle posted a cover of her own and to some of her fans, it might seem like an unexpected homage.
“Got a lot of requests for more [Rancid] covers when I asked y’all what you wanted to hear me play,” the Grammy-winning folk/bluegrass star wrote in the caption to a video of her covering the ’90s punk rock band. “Someone specifically asked for ‘Ruby Soho’ which has always been one of my absolute favorites!!”
Tuttle went on to say she has “a self indulgent dream of someday covering the whole ‘…and out come the wolves’ album folk/bluegrass style so now I’m one step closer 
”
Tuttle’s tribute to Rancid happened to coincide with another notable foray into heavy music by her bluegrass contemporary Billy Strings, who sat in with extreme metal band Flesh and Blood Robot at its first show in 18 years on Sunday night. The coincidence just goes to show that good music is good music no matter the style, and the divides between genres may not always be as deep or impermeable as they seem.
