Ween has abruptly canceled all seven April concerts on the band’s upcoming 40th anniversary tour. In a note addressed to fans, guitarist/co-founder Mickey “Dean Ween” Melchiondo wrote that he is stepping away “from performing live in order to preserve my mental and spiritual well being.”

See the full note from Deaner below,

For the majority of my life I have been blessed enough to have a career doing the thing that I love the most. This privilege has never been lost on me. The fact that the music reaches other people and means so much to them is something that I never take for granted, and for which I am truly grateful, all of the time, every time we perform. At this moment in time though I need to step away from performing live in order to preserve my mental and spiritual well being, and instead focus on myself and loved ones. I know this will come as a disappointment and with great inconvenience to many people who bought tickets and made travel plans, and for this I sincerely apologize. I look forward to returning to the stage with the enthusiasm, joy, and renewed sense of inspiration that our fans deserve, and that I require of myself when we play live. Thank you and god bless.

The affected shows include stops in Atlanta (4/19), Nashville (4/20), Birmingham, AL (4/21), Charleston, SC (4/23), Asheville, NC (4/25), Raleigh (4/26), and Richmond, VA (4/27). As of publication, Ween’s August West Coast tour is still scheduled to take place as planned, with shows in Spokane, WA (8/4), Seattle (8/6), Portland (8/9–8/10), and Eugene, OR (8/10). Then in September, Ween is due to celebrate 30 years of Chocolate and Cheese with the band’s debut at The Mann Center for the Performing Arts in Philadelphia on September 27th. For tickets and a full list of tour dates visit the band’s website. Ween had previously kicked off its 40th anniversary year with a four-night, two-city run in Phoenix and Del Mar, CA.

Get well soon, Deaner. ♥
