Guitarist and bandleader Joe Marcinek has rerouted his upcoming Dead Funk Summit show in California to Los Angeles following the abrupt cancellation of Skull & Roses Festival, originally scheduled to take place in Ventura on April 19th, 20th, and 21st. Determined not to scrap the ensemble’s plans for a trip out west, Marcinek will now host a special Dead Funk Summit show at Saint Rocke in Hermosa Beach on Sunday, April 21st featuring an opening set by Shambala.
Dead Funk Summit is a fusion of the musical worlds of the Grateful Dead and New Orleans funk. In addition to releasing his recent Dead Funk Summit album featuring Melvin Seals (Jerry Garcia Band) and George Porter Jr. (The Meters), Joe Marcinek hosts frequent live Dead Funk Summit events featuring a rotating mix of beloved players from the extended jam and funk scenes.

The Dead Funk Summit at Saint Rocke on Sunday, April 21st will feature Joe Marcinek alongside Nate LaPointe (Cubensis), Steve Molitz (Particle), Tony Hall (Dumpstaphunk), Stanton Moore (Galactic), and Jason Hann (The String Cheese Incident). Joe Marcinek’s Dead Funk Summit was initially scheduled to perform on the final day of Skull & Roses Festival in at the famed Ventura County Fairgrounds in Ventura, CA. Earlier this week, however, the festival’s founder announced in a social media post that the 2024 festival had been canceled, explaining that, “the financial devastation of the 2023 show made it impossible to sustain the weight of the new production.” For more on the Skull & Roses cancellation, head here.
