The New Mastersounds returned to the East Coast at long last, stopping for two nights at Brooklyn Bowl and one at Park City Music Hall in Bridgeport, CT before they head to the Pacific Northwest this weekend.

The seminal British soul jazz ensemble Simon Allen, Eddie Roberts, Pete Shand, and Joe Tatton is currently on its first U.S. tour since 2019, reminding audiences just how hard they groove. Guitarist Eddie Roberts pulled double duty, opening each show with his new project, The Lucky Strokes, who released their debut album in October. The band’s in-your-face blues rock provided a nice complementary contrast to The New Mastersounds’ mostly instrumental funk-jazz and soul, with Roberts serving as the lynchpin bridging their sounds. Simon Allen also briefly jumped between acts, sitting in with The Lucky Strokes on keys and tambourine.

The New Mastersounds’ tour continues this weekend with shows in Seattle, Portland, San Francisco and Santa Cruz. The trek is set to wrap next weekend with two shows in New Orleans coinciding with the start of Jazz Fest. For more details and to purchase tickets, visit the band’s website.
