Sydney Art Gallery concert series Volume will return in July 2024, presenting performances from four artists across the month. Outkast‘s André 3000 tops the bill, performing two exclusive Australian shows inside the Art Gallery’s underground space known as The Tank. Sonic Youth‘s Kim Gordon is also set to perform, having recently announced her Australian tour but noting at the time that her Sydney shows were “TBA”.

Joining them will be Genesis Owusu, performing with his long-serving ensemble The Black Dog Band, as well as Tkay Maidza – who was meant to tour Australia in November of 2024 before the dates were cancelled. A program of free events throughout the Gallery over the month is also set to be announced in the coming weeks, ahead of the ticketed events going on sale. The dates for all four artists, as well as pre-sale and ticketing information, can be found below.

In a press statement, Art Gallery director Michael Brand said that the gallery was “thrilled to be inviting some of the most innovative and bold musicians to The Tank”. “[They will] create unique music experiences that will make audiences think, feel and move,” he said. “We look forward to seeing how each artist responds to this remarkable space.”

André 3000 will be performing in Australia for the first time as a solo artist, having last been in the country a decade prior with Outkast headlining Splendour In The Grass. He will be performing his debut solo album New Blue Sun in its entirety, joined by an ensemble of American jazz musicians. Gordon, meanwhile, was last in Australia circa 2022. There, she was an exclusive artist for that year’s iteration of Dark MOFO, playing two shows at Hobart’s M2.

Volume premiered at the Sydney Art Gallery last year, headlined by a set of exclusive Australian performances by Solange. Others that performed at that year’s event included Sampa The Great, Mount Eerie, Black Belt Eagle Scout and Tortoise‘s Jeff Parker.
