bruce springsteen postpones european tour dates due to vocal issues

Bruce Springsteen this past Sunday put his European tour on hold while the 74-year-old singer-songwriter recovers from vocal issues. The Boss and his E Street band have postponed three international concerts, per doctor’s orders, and plan to resume the tour on June 12th.

Shows affected by the postponement include performances originally scheduled for May 28th in Prague and June 1st and 3rd in Milan. Those shows will be rescheduled to a yet-unspecified later date, and those who cannot attend the new shows may request a refund through their point of purchase. Per the announcement, Springsteen should back in action on June 12th to kick off a two-show run in Madrid.

This announcement comes after Springsteen played one of his typical nearly three-hour extravaganzas through a persistent rainstorm in Sunderland, UK on May 22nd. The next day, Bruce accepted the Academy Fellowship from The Ivors Academy in London—the first international songwriter to do so—where his voice was noticeably hoarse and cracked intermittently.

This latest postponement followed another postponed Bruce Springsteen show in Marseille, originally set to take place on May 25th. “Following [Saturday’s] postponement in Marseille due to vocal issues, further examination and consulting has led doctors to determine that Bruce should not perform for the next ten days,” the band posted on social media. “Bruce is recuperating comfortably, and he and the E Street Band look forward to resuming their hugely successful European stadium tour on June 12 in Madrid at the magnificent Civitas Metropolitan.”

This isn’t the first health-related setback Springsteen has faced on his lengthy world tour. A month after beginning their first U.S. tour since 2016, Bruce & The E Street Band postponed three concerts in March 2023 due to an unspecified illness. Things were smooth sailing for a while until September when the Boss punted a string of shows as he recovered from peptic ulcer disease, later pushing his remaining 2023 tour dates into 2024. Come March, however, Bruce was back in action as he powered his band through the remaining U.S. tour dates, making up all his postponed dates with thrilling marathon concerts across the country.

Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band will return to the United States in August to finish off the second domestic leg of the tour. Scroll down for a full list of tour dates and visit Springsteen’s website for tickets.
