Guster played a free show on a front porch just down the street from where the band first formed while students at Tufts University as part of Somerville, MA’s annual outdoor music festival Porchfest.
The beloved quartet drew a crowd of truly epic proportions, with fans filling every space on the street and neighboring houses for as far as the eye could see, and most unable to hear, much less see the band.

“I’ve heard about as much Guster music as I heard before now, which is none of it,” 30-year-old Andy Cawley told The Boston Globe.
The performance marked a triumphant homecoming for Guster, who first met in 1991 and lived just down the street at 33 Aberdeen Road while making a name for themselves in the indie rock scene.

“This is the most people that have been on Aberdeen. Ever,” said guitarist and vocalist Ryan Miller at the beginning of the set.
The scene was electric though chaotic, and unfortunately the performance was cut short due to a medical emergency in the crowd, but not before the band played about 20 minutes of mostly original tunes and a cover of Fleetwood Mac‘s “Dreams”.

“This may be our last PorchFest, f***. It’s like the Beatles. They get too close to these middle-aged beards and they’re like, ‘Oh my God. Receding hairlines? I can’t contain myself!’” said Miller as a motorcycle attempted to navigate through the crowd to address the situation.
“We’ll be back next year but we’re not gonna tell anybody we’re playing next time. You’ll just have to find us, like Whac-A-Mole,” Miller said.
