Founding Allman Brothers Band drummer and sole surviving member of the original ABB lineup Jaimoe made a rare public appearance to perform with Friends of the Brothers at Sacred Heart University Community Theatre in Fairfield, CT Saturday night.

Comprised of musicians closely associated with the Allman Brothers Band including longtime Jaimoe collaborator and Jasssz Band frontman Junior Mack, Dickey Betts and Great Southern member Andy Aledort, and ABB biographer and author of One Way Out: The Inside History of the Allman Brothers Band Alan Paul, Friends of the Brothers celebrated the spirit and legacy of the Allman Brothers and paid tribute to guitarist Dickey Betts, who passed away on April 18th.

With Jaimoe sitting in on drums alongside Dave Diamond (Zen Tricksters, Bob Weir, Robert Randolph) and Lee Finkelstein (Tower of Power, Blues Brothers), plus bassist Craig Privett (Half Step) and keyboardist Mike Katzman (Leslie Mendelsohn, The Electrix), the band played Betts classics including “Blue Sky”, as well as other ABB favorites like “Ain’t Wastin’ Time No More”, “Midnight Rider”, and “In Memory of Elizabeth Reed”.

After leaving it to the band to close out the set with “Don’t Keep Me Wondering” and Betts’ signature tune “Ramblin Man”, Jaimoe returned to the stage to end the show with “Jessica”. Notably, the show marked Jaimoe’s first live performance since January 2023.
