Multi-hyphenated hip-hop/R&B artist Anderson .Paak will link up with his longtime backing band The Free Nationals for a nationwide tour celebrating their landmark 2016 album, Malibu. Together, they will perform the Grammy-nominated LP in full every night of their first full-fledged tour since 2019’s Best Teef in the Game Tour.
The 14-date trek will kick off on September 18th in Bend, OR, beginning a West Coast leg that includes a previously announced orchestral show at the Hollywood Bowl on September 24th. The Malibu Tour will also visit Las Vegas—where .Paak recently enjoyed a lengthy stay for his Silk Sonic residency with Bruno Mars—and familiar venues Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado (10/2), Huntington Bank Pavilion at Northerly Island in Chicago (10/4), TD Pavilion at The Mann in Philadelphia (10/8), Northwell at Jones Beach Theater outside NYC in Wantagh, NY (10/11), and more before wrapping at Lakewood Amphitheatre in Atlanta (10/13). Frequent collaborator and lauded trumpeter Maurice “Mobetta” Brown will join the tour as a special guest along with disco duo GAWD.
An artist pre-sale for tickets to Anderson .Paak & The Free Nationals’ The Malibu Tour begins Wednesday, June 26th at 9 a.m. local time. Additional pre-sales will run throughout the week ahead of the general on-sale Friday, June 28th at 9 a.m. local time. See below for a full list of tour dates and visit .Paak’s website for tickets.
This announcement comes following a period of renewed activity for .Paak and The Free Nationals. Following their 2019 tour (and the COVID pandemic) .Paak pursued other projects including his retro ’70s R&B project Silk Sonic with Bruno Mars, DJ gigs as his wigged alter-ego DJ Pee Wee, and new work with Knxwledge as NxWorries. The bandleader and the band he leads recently linked up for a pair of shows in New Orleans during Jazz Fest, a private warm-up gig at the 1,200-capacity Joy Theater on Friday and closing out Jazz Fest’s main stage on Sunday in front of tens of thousands. The rapper/drummer/frontman also kept busy in the evenings when New Orleans came alive with after-shows, dropping in at gigs by “Mobetta” and Eddie Roberts and even serving drinks at the Toulouse Theatre.
