Dune Rats have announced that they will tour Australia in August 2024 with longtime friends FIDLAR, with the pair coming together for a 10-date co-headliner. It comes in support of new albums from both bands: Dune Rats’ upcoming fifth album If It Sucks, Turn It Up, and FIDLAR’s upcoming fourth album Surviving the Dream. The two bands last toured Australia together in 2013, with Dune Rats opening for FIDLAR’s sideshows while in town for Splendour In The Grass. Since then, the two bands have toured both the US and Europe together, with FIDLAR frontman Zac Carper producing Dune Rats’ second album The Kids Will Know It’s Bullshit. In a joint statement, Dune Rats explained that the idea for the co-headlining Australian tour came about while both bands played in the UK together last year.
“Showing them the Aussie diet of beer and BBQs, plus a bit of surfing and partying, meant that when we wanted to tour the US, they bundled us into a van and spent three months seeing the States – from Gator Back scratchers in Florida to the bright lights of New York City,” they said. “[We] can’t wait to show them how crazy it is to play in Australia this time round.”
Dune Rats – ‘Cheapskate’
FIDLAR, for their part, described Dune Rats as being “like your favorite cousin that you only get to see every couple of years” in their own joint statement. “You’ve known them forever, you like them more than some of your other cousins, you crack each other up, get into trouble, have a few heart-to-hearts even. When we get together, it’s like a psycho little family reunion.”
Dune Rats have not undertaken a national Australian tour since March 2020; a tour with Ruby Fields, Dear Seattle and Totty wrapped a matter of weeks before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. FIDLAR, meanwhile, were last in Australia in March of 2023 for a headlining tour of the country.
