On Saturday night in Texas, country star George Strait broke the record for largest ticketed concert in the U.S.—a distinction previously held by the Grateful Dead since 1977.

Strait performed for a staggering 110,905 fans at Kyle Field at Texas A&M in College Station, TX, surpassing the venue’s previous attendance record of 110,633 ticketed attendees for a Texas A&M game against Ole Miss. The gathering marked the largest ticketed audience for a U.S. concert since the Grateful Dead sold 107,019 tickets for their historic 1977 concert at Raceway Park in Englishtown, NJ, though estimates for actual attendees at that show have ranged as high as 175,000.

Saturday’s concert was Strait’s first time performing at Kyle Field, but after taking the stage and seeing the size of the crowd, the 72-year-old exclaimed, “Damn! Just invite me back. I’ll come!”

Strait is currently on the road wrapping up his tour with support from Chris Stapleton, who recently welcomed Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi to join him in their hometown of Jacksonville, FL for his trademark cover of “Tennessee Whiskey”. The tour is set to conclude with shows at Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City, Ford Field in Detroit, Soldier Field in Chicago, and Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
