Lukas Nelson‘s backing band Promise of the Real has announced an impending hiatus following its summer 2024 tour. While the band members pursue solo endeavors, the singer-songwriter son of Willie Nelson will continue to write, record, and tour under simply his own name.

“After 15 unforgettable years, Promise of the Real has decided to take a well-earned hiatus, and begin a new creative chapter in all of our lives,” the ensemble wrote on social media. “Lukas plans to keep writing, recording, and playing shows, while the rest of us will continue to pursue our own projects and artistic ambitions. Expect to see a lot more great art from all of us in the near future.”

Nelson formed Promise of the Real in 2008 in Los Angeles, going on to release eight studio albums and two live albums with the band, most recently 2023’s Sticks and Stones. From 2014–2019, the group served as Neil Young‘s backing band following an impromptu onstage jam at Farm Aid and put out four albums with Young and the soundtrack to the 2018 musical Paradox directed by Neil’s wife Daryl Hannah. The band’s lineup consists of Lukas Nelson (lead vocals, songwriter, acoustic and electric guitars, piano), Anthony LoGerfo (drums, percussion), Corey McCormick (bass guitar, upright bass, vocals), Logan Metz (keyboards, lap steel, piano, banjo, harmonica, vocals), and Tato Melgar (percussion). This news also comes immediately after Nelson headlined DelFest with a set backed by the Tavelin’ McCourys in lieu of POTR.

“We continue to love playing together, and we intend to work together again in the future, both individually and as a group,” the band concluded. “For now, you can see the band out on the summer 2024 dates. Thanks to all the Realers for your endless support. You’re the best fans in the world. We love you, and we’ll see you down the road.”
