Neil Young has canceled his remaining summer tour dates with Crazy Horse due to an illness currently affecting the band. The Canadian rock legend announced the cancellations in a post on his Neil Young Archives website on Wednesday.
The current Crazy Horse lineup, which includes Young alongside longtime members Billy Talbot (bass) and Ralph Molina (drums) as well as guitarist Micah Nelson, played its last show on May 22nd in Clarkston, MI. The group was due to resume touring operations throughout July prior to headlining sets at Louisville, KY’s Bourbon & Beyond (9/19) and Dana Point, CA’s Ohana Fest (9/29) and a tour-closing show at Los Angeles, CA’s Hollywood Bowl (9/29).
Young and company had previously postponed a run of late-May dates in Chicago, Austin, and Dallas due to the same illness. All of the band’s headlining dates now read “cancelled” on Ticketmaster while both Ohana Fest and Bourbon & Beyond issued statements telling fans to look out for updated lineups soon.
As Young wrote in his cancellation post, “The Love Earth Tour has been a great experience for us so far. GREAT AUDIENCES AND MUSIC. WE HAVE HAD A BLAST! When a couple of us got sick after Detroit’s Pine Knob, we had to stop. We are still not fully recovered, so sadly our great tour will have a big unplanned break. We will try to play some of the dates we miss as time passes when we are ready to rock again!”
He added, “We know many of you made travel plans and we apologize for the inconvenience. Thanks for your understanding and patience. Health is # 1. We want to stay and do more shows and more albums for you…. and for for us. With love and thanks to all of you from Crazy Horse….. Neil, Micah, Ralph and Billy Love Earth.”
