After playing arenas and stadiums throughout classic rock’s heyday, Roger Daltrey is offering fans a rare treat with an intimate North American theater tour. The Who frontman stopped by The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, NY on Tuesday where he explored his band’s iconic catalog along with a range of covers by contemporaries and collaborators.

Daltrey came out of the gate with a hat-tip to his Who bandmate Pete Townshend, opening the show with “Let My Love Open the Door” from the guitarist’s 1980 album Empty Glass and his most well-known solo song. The singer dug deep with “Freedom Ride” from the 1998 Americana project Largo which—though it never achieved much commercial or cultural recognition—Daltrey has championed at his live shows for over a decade.

Of course, there were also plenty of trademark Who cuts like “Who Are You”, “The Kids Are Alright”, “Squeeze Box”, “Won’t Get Fooled Again”, and others, sprinkled in with deeper cuts like “So Sad About Us” from 1966 and “Another Tricky Day” from the post-Keith Moon years. On “Going Mobile” from Who’s Next, Daltrey even ceded the microphone to Pete’s brother Simon Townshend who plays guitar in Roger’s touring outfit.

Tuesday’s show wound down with a run of surprising covers, most notably back-to-back Creedence Clearwater Revival selections “Born on the Bayou” and “Have You Ever Seen the Rain”—the former of which has been in Daltery’s rotation since 1993 while the later just joined for this tour. After the tribute to the fellow Woodstock alums, Daltrey looked back on his short-lived film career with “Without Your Love” from 1980’s McVicar which cast the singer in the titular starring role. The biggest surprise of the evening came with the debut of Paul Simon‘s “The Boy in the Bubble” ahead of the climactic”Baba O’Riley”. Just before the end of the show, the 80-year-old Rock & Roll Hall of Famer showed he’s still got it as a brassiere thrown from the crowd landed at his feet. After briefly wearing it on his face, Daltrey chivalrously returned it to the audience member and closed out the concert with a rocking cover of “Young Man Blues”, immortalized on The Who’s 1970 Live at Leeds album.
