As they gear up to support the mighty Parkway Drive at arena-sized venues across the country this September, Naarm/Melbourne heavy act Void Of Vision are ushering in a new era with the announcement of their forthcoming fourth studio album.
Dubbed What I’ll Leave Behind, the follow-up to the band’s AIR Award-nominated 2023 album project Chronicles is due to drop on Friday, 20th September via UNFD.
Void Of Vision – ‘Gamma Knife’
The news comes punctuated with the arrival of our first cut of the new record ‘Gamma Knife’, a compelling hunk of metalcore inspired by vocalist Jack Bergin’s personal growth following a truly harrowing health experience (watch the video above).
“‘Gamma Knife’ is about my near death experience and the desire for clarity in the aftermath,” Bergin shares in a press statement.
The near death experience he refers to sounds like the true stuff of nightmares. The singer suffered a seizure in the dead of night, nearly biting off his tongue in the process. After days of tests and a revolving door of specialists, Bergin discovered he had a “glitch” inside his head. MRI and CT scans revealed an arteriovenous malformation (AVM), or a tangle of blood vessels in his brain.
“To truly discover if everything I went through in the healing process would change me and everything around me for the better,” the vocalist continues. “I felt like the idea of going through radio-surgery figuratively felt like it was not only destroying the malformation in my brain but also a negative version of myself I needed to leave in the past.”
The result of that trauma of battling such a life-altering health issue and the long periods of recovery existential crises that followed – all in the midst of continuing to make music and tour globally – was What I’ll Leave Behind.
“The album is a reflection, on and of everything; coming to terms with life and mortality, finding inner peace from within the impact crater,” Bergin reflects.
