Duane Betts & Palmetto Motel graced the storied Levon Helm Studios in Woodstock, NY this past Sunday night for an incredible performance at one of the most sentimental venues in the country.

The Betts-led quintet consisting of Johnny Stachela (guitar), Pedro Arevalo (bass), Vincent Fossett Jr. (drums), and Max Butler (keys) began the show with “Saints To Sinners” off Duane’s 2023 solo debut Wild & Precious Life. During Duane Betts’ 12-song set, Goose percussionist (and Pedro’s brother) Jeffrey Arevalo stopped by to lend some fraternal support, joining the group on tambourine for the Allman Brothers Band‘s “Blue Sky”, penned by Duane’s father Dickey Betts. The touching tribute to the recently passed Southern rock icon kept the crowd in a state of reverence and reminiscence.

The Goose percussionist would later join Duane Betts and the band again on drums for “Colors Fade” and percussion on a blistering “In Memory of Elizabeth Reed”. Palmetto Motel also debuted the first live version of the haunting and introspective song “Circles In The Stars” with Duane on acoustic guitar.

Guitarist Scott Sharrard (Little Feat) and multi-instrumentalist Brian Mitchell (Levon Helm & The Midnight Ramble Band, B.B. King, Les Paul) also joined the band on a cover of Muddy Waters’ “Hoochie Coochie Man” featuring Pedro on vocals. The group finished the night with “Waiting On A Song” which featured some Allmans-style guitar trade-offs between Betts and Stachela, as the crowd floated off into the Woodstock night. The spirits of rock n’ roll were ever-present on this magical evening in the legendary upstate New York artistic enclave.
