Eggy has released “Gentle Clown”, the latest single from the New Haven, CT quartet’s forthcoming sophomore album, Waiting Game. The new single follows “A Moment’s Notice” and “Laurel” as the third track to arrive from the LP. The band also shared a pro-shot live video of “Leatherback” from its debut performance at Colorado’s famed Red Rocks Amphitheatre on July 4th.
Continuing the dreamy, pop-rock aesthetic of the last Waiting Game single, “Laurel“, “Gentle Clown” hits the ground running behind a tight drum beat from Alex Bailey and a purposeful power chord progression from guitarist Jake Brownstein as a nimble Mike Goodman bassline and an array of alluring synth flourishes from Dani Battat illuminate the track in a surreal sort of sonic sunlight. With Bailey’s emotive vocals leading the way, the band utilizes dynamics to its advantage throughout “Gentle Clown”, bringing the proceedings down to a whisper or raising them to a howl with impressive fluidity.

Ahead of the single release, Eggy shared a pro-shot video of the set-closing “Leatherback” from the band’s first-ever show at Red Rocks Amphitheatre last week opening for Blues Traveler. In the video, as Battat begins to play the song’s opening piano progression, Jake Brownstein steps to the microphone to deliver an emotional message to all who could hear.
“Thank you guys so much for coming out early,” he says, surveying the thousands in attendance . “It’s an honor to be playing here with the people we love. Playing the music that we love. This beautiful place… Our biggest ask is that we can take these special moments and allow it to ripple into our daily lives. Because if there’s one thing that we learned, it’s time moves way too fast. So send a message to the people that you love. Give them a call. Open your arms for the big hug. And make sure the people you love know it every single day.” He went on to dedicate the song to a number of loved ones lost through the years before leading the band through the moving number. Waiting Game is set to arrive amid Eggy’s biggest year of touring to date. Following the band’s Red Rocks debut and recent appearances at major events like Bonnaroo, Electric Forest, and High Sierra, Brownstein, Battat, Goodman, and Bailey will continue their festival-focused summer run with slots at Snowshoe, WV’s 4848 Festival (7/18–7/20), Jay, VT’s Jeezum Crow Festival (7/19–7/20), Check, VA’s FloydFest (7/24–7/27), and Cockeysville, MD’s Hot August Music Festival (8/10) before heading out on a run of dates supporting Umphrey’s McGee in late August.
