The Hard-Ons have shared a trifecta of news regarding the band: They will tour in October, they have a brand-new single out now (August 1st) and their upcoming documentary, The Most Australian Band Ever, will officially premiere at this year’s SXSW Sydney.

The national tour will celebrate the 40th anniversary of the band, who formed out of Punchbowl in Sydney’s west circa 1984. Guitarist Peter “Blackie” Black and bassist Ray Ahn have overseen every iteration of the line-up since the band’s inception – which has featured former Conation drummer Murray Ruse since 2011 (replacing Regurgitator‘s Pete Kostic) and lead vocalist Tim Rogers since 2021.

The new single, entitled ‘Buzz Buzz Buzz’, was premiered live last month when the band opened for Radio Birdman across three nights at Sydney’s Manning Bar as part of their Birdman Five-O anniversary tour. It is the first song to be lifted from the band’s forthcoming, as-yet-untitled new album – their 15th overall, and third with Rogers fronting the band.

“[It’s] our best collaboration so far,” said Black of ‘Buzz Buzz Buzz’, which he co-wrote with Rogers. “When Tim said ‘I wanna get a little left of centre with the melody on this’, I was blown away – but not surprised.”

The Most Australian Band Ever, which has been several years in the making, will receive its official premiere on Wednesday, October 16th at Newtown’s Dendy Cinema. Directed by Jonathan J. Sequeira, who also made the Radio Birdman documentary Descent Into The Maelstrom, the film features interviews with band members past and present, as well as Radio Birdman’s Rob Younger and Hoodoo Gurus frontman Dave Faulkner.
