The MLB will celebrate the legacy of Jerry Garcia with a series of tribute nights across the league in July and August. Teams from coast to coast will remember the Grateful Dead guitarist with concerts, merch giveaways, and more, with a portion of the proceeds benefitting the band’s Rex Foundation.
The first of five Jerry Garcia tribute nights will fittingly occur in the Grateful Dead stronghold of Oakland, CA on July 5th when the Oakland Athletics play the Baltimore Orioles. Fans who show up early can enjoy a pre-game concert by Stu Allen & Mars Hotel at 5 p.m. and pick up an exclusive corduroy “Wolf” hat. Vocalist Sunshine Becker of Furthur will sing the national anthem that night at Oakland Coliseum.
Next, on July 30th, the Boston Red Sox will host their annual Jerry Garcia night when they take on the Seattle Mariners at Fenway Park. Attendees can grab a Jerry-themed Red Sox button-down, while VIP ticketholders will receive a mini collectible of Garcia’s “Tiger” guitar. The Jerry Garcia tributes will then come to the Dead’s Midwestern bastion of Cincinnati, OH on August 2nd for a celebration at Great American Ballpark when the Cincinnati Reds face the Grateful Dead’s home team, the San Francisco Giants. Finally, the Jerry Garcia tributes will appropriately wrap in San Francisco at Oracle Park on August 12th when the Giants compete against the Atlanta Braves. The Giants will host an “immersive gameday experience” filled with music from San Francisco’s native son, including a live pre-game performance and complimentary commemorative tie-dyed jerseys with purchase of a special ticket package.
