Robbie Robertson passed away in August 2023 following a long period of illness. He was 80 years old. His work with The Band in the 1960s and 1970s has been celebrated as some of the most beloved material in the American music canon.

“I wanted to write music that felt like it could’ve been written 50 years ago, tomorrow, yesterday — that had this lost-in-time quality,” Robertson said in a 1995 interview for the public television series Shakespeare in the Alley. Read our full obituary for Robertson here.
