Tonight Alive have announced that they will play an exclusive one-off show at Sydney’s Crowbar on Thursday, September 12th – ahead of their set at this year’s When We Were Young festival in Las Vegas, where they will perform their second studio album The Other Side in its entirety. The show was announced yesterday morning (July 1st), and sold out within hours of going on sale.
Tonight Alive split up toward the end of 2018, less than a year after the release of their fourth studio album Underworld. The split was brought on by both burnout and a traumatic experience at the inaugural Good Things festival that year, in which a security guard suffered a suspected heart attack during their set at the Sydney leg and died on the festival site at the age of 45.

Since the band’s split, they have only performed one show – a one-off reunion at the 2020 Unify Gathering. Lead vocalist Jenna McDougall also launched a solo project, performing and releasing music under the moniker of Hevenshe, while drummer Matty Best relocated to the US to become the new full-time drummer of Sleeping With Sirens. Guitarist Jake Hardy, meanwhile, became the venue manager of Crowbar – giving the reunion show’s venue choice a more personal connection.
The status of former lead guitarist Whakaio Taahi is currently unknown. Taahi, who was a founding member of the band, left the fold in 2017 to focus solely on his new career as a pop songwriter. Last year, upon the announcement of Tonight Alive being on the bill for When We Were Young, he confirmed he would participate in the reunion; however, he does not appear on the poster or the promotional photos for the Crowbar show. It remains unclear as to whether Taahi will solely perform with the band for their Las Vegas show or if he has opted out of the reunion entirely.
