Keith Albarn, the father of Blur frontman Damon Albarn, has passed away at the age of 85. The sad news was confirmed in an obituary published in The Times newspaper, which highlighted Keith’s remarkable contributions as an artist, architect, and educator.
The obituary described Keith as the “Creator of sensory space-age playgrounds in urban areas and an influential teacher.” He studied architecture at Nottingham School of Art, where he met Hazel Dring, whom he married in 1963. The couple had two children, Damon, 56, a key figure in the Britpop movement, and Jessica, 53, an accomplished artist.

Keith’s career was marked by significant achievements, including leading the fine art course at North East London Polytechnic from 1977 to 1981 and serving as the head of the Colchester School of Art from 1981 to 1997. In addition to his architectural work, Keith was known for his contributions to TV arts programming.
His passing comes just months after Blur wrapped up their reunion shows at Coachella in April. The band, known for hits like Parklife, continues to explore new opportunities. Drummer Dave Rowntree recently hinted at the possibility of more projects in the future, stating that while nothing is currently planned, the band remains open to exciting offers.
Fans of Blur can look forward to the release of a live album from their recent Wembley Stadium gigs and the documentary film Blur: To The End, which provides a candid look at the band’s journey. Despite the loss of his father, Damon Albarn’s legacy in music continues, influenced by the creativity and innovation his father, Keith, exemplified throughout his life.
