Marquee acts from this year’s Meredith Music Festival have announced their own headlining shows today (August 22nd), a week on from the festival’s line-up announcement. Waxahatchee, Jamie xx, Fat White Family and Mannequin Pussy will all play shows across Australia in December in the lead-up to the festival – the full itinerary for each act can be found below.
Each run of sideshows bears its own significance for each act. Waxahatchee, for instance, is not only playing her first Australian shows in six years, it will also be her first full-band tour since 2016. Project figurehead Katie Crutchfield is currently joined in her backing band by MJ Lenderman, as well as Jeff Tweedy‘s son Spencer and Twin Peaks‘ Clay Frankel and Colin Croom.
Waxahatchee – ‘Right Back To It’
For Jamie xx, meanwhile, the shows will mark his first headlining solo shows in Australia since 2016. The famed UK producer and The xx member toured with his band in 2018 and played solo festival slots at Falls, Lost Paradise and Heaps Good over the 2022/2023 new-year period.
Fat White Family are returning to Australia for the first time since 2016. The band played at that year’s Splendour In The Grass, in a set shrouded with controversy following their removal from festival grounds by police, as well as sideshows in Sydney and Melbourne. The band attempted to tour again in February 2020, but cancelled due to the then-looming threat of COVID.
As for Mannequin Pussy, the American alternative rock band will tour Australia for the first time after nearly 15 years as a band. Their maiden voyage comes in support of their fourth studio album I Got Heaven. Following their Australian jaunt, the band will head to New Zealand for two shows: Wellington’s San Fran on Thursday, December 12th and Auckland’s Tuning Fork on Friday, December 13th.
