The Sonos Era 100 is an improved version of the Sonos One smart speaker, with a much more powerful bass and other improvements. The smart speaker is currently down to its lowest price of $199 (originally $249) after a $50 discount, the lowest price this speaker has been, according to price-checking tools.
The Sonos Era 100 came out in early 2023 with an “excellent” review from PCMag for its ability to play stereo with a single device (it has a dual tweeter setup), having balanced audio, a well-developed companion Sonos app that allows you to adjust the EQ, the ability to connect with Bluetooth and wifi, having Alexa and Sonos voice control, and being able to play music from most major music streaming services.
What makes the Sonos Era 100 great (or most Sonos speakers for that matter) is its ability to seamlessly group with other Sonos speakers that you own. Sonos makes it very easy to do multi-room pairing without needing to connect to your wifi again, and the Sonos app is fast and user friendly.
Back when the speaker launched in 2023, there was limited support to what music services it supported, with just Apple Music, Amazon Music, Deezer, and Pandora, notably missing Spotify. However, Spotify and other music services are now available. Its voice assistant is still limited, with no Google Assistant or Google Cast. The speaker also doesn’t have Dolby Atmos, which is disappointing for a speaker of this price. Since it is still a single speaker, the stereo and bass are not mind-blowing, but they’re still better than previous Sonos speakers.
If you’re looking for a stationary smart speaker with great audio and potentially connect with other Sonos speakers that you might get in the future, the Sonos Era 100 is a great choice.
