The 2024 Olympics in Paris, France will come to an end this Sunday, August 11th with a closing ceremony that will serve as a passing of the baton from this year’s host to the hosts of the next 2028 Olympic Games: the United States’ Los Angeles, CA. According to a report from Variety, the closing ceremonies will include musical performances by a number of high-profile California natives including Billie EilishRed Hot Chili Peppers, and—naturally—unofficial 2024 American Olympic mascot Snoop Dogg. Per The Associated PressH.E.R. will also be on hand to perform the U.S. national anthem as part of the ceremonial handover.

Variety reports that Eilish, RHCP, and Snoop “will be seen from Los Angeles in a mix of pre-taped and live performances. Producer Ben Winston, who is no stranger to live music events as the producer of the Grammy Awards and CBS’ 2021 ‘Adele: One Night Only’ special, is coordinating with French producers of the Closing Ceremony.”

Tinseltown stars are also rumored to be involved in the Paris/L.A. Olympic handoff. As the Variety report notes, “the musical performances from Los Angeles are expected to follow a much-hyped stunt from Tom Cruise, news of which leaked last week. Cruise will jump on his motorcycle for an average day of death-defying tricks in France, before tossing to a prerecorded package that will see him parachute down next to the iconic Hollywood sign. The L.A.-affiliated musicians will take it from there.”

Before the symbolic torch passes from Paris ’24 to Los Angeles ’28 at the ceremony, Le Parisien reports, French electro-pop act Air, indie-rock favorite Phoenix, and French electronic music pioneer Jean-Michel Jarre are also due to perform. All three of those acts, Deadline speculates, would make sense for the transition given their combination of French roots and active L.A. fanbases.

The Paris Olympics closing ceremony is scheduled to begin at 9:00 p.m. CEST (3:00 p.m. EDT) this Sunday, August 11th at Stade de France just north of Paris and is expected to last for just over two hours. Viewers can tune in on NBC or stream it live via Peacock.
