Thelma Plum has formally detailed her second studio album, entitled I’m Sorry, Now Say It Back. The official follow-up to her 2019 debut Better In Blak is set for release on Friday, October 18th via Warner Music Australia. To coincide with the album announcement, Plum has shared a new single from it entitled ‘Freckles’.

Like both of the album’s previous singles, ‘We Don’t Talk About It’ and ‘Nobody’s Baby’, Plum co-wrote ‘Freckles’ with longtime collaborator Alex Burnett (ex-Sparkadia). Oli Horton, a London-based producer, co-wrote and co-produced alongside Burnett. In a press statement, Plum described the song as “a love song about someone who truly sees all parts of you”.

“To be loved in that way by someone is, to me, so incredibly wonderful,” she said. The song can be streamed below.

Plum, Burnett and Horton recorded I’m Sorry… piecemeal across multiple sessions in the years following her 2022 EP Meanjin. The trio worked on the songs across sessions in cities such as Brisbane, Byron Bay, London, Sydney and Melbourne – although the press materials for the record also joke there may have been other sessions in “some places [Plum] forgot.”

“This record… was created with love, heartache, forgiveness and care in mind,” said Plum. “It’s personal, and kind of like I’m sharing pages from my diary with you, but it’s time for it to fly free.”

Plum and her band – Pete Covington on guitar, ex-Sweater Curse frontwoman Monnie Sottile on bass and Art vs. Science‘s Dan Williams on drums – will play triple j‘s One Night Stand in Warrnambool next month before playing three shows in Far North Queensland in early October. Tickets for all of these can be found on Plum’s website.
